I LOVE this mini pick me up!! I try to do it every day in the afternoon while in my cubicle. Plus, I've taken your advice about energy snacks. I used to have a soda and something from the office vending machine, but that only made me more sleepy. Now, with doing this video and eating the right snacks, I feel a lot better throughout the afternoon. Thanks! - Kerry

I agree and think this is what keeps people from reaching their weight loss and diet goals. They don't have their mind in it. They buy a new diet book, or start a new diet program but never finish. They never really put their mind into it. They don't train their mind. Thank you.

The power of the mind and the power of your subconscious are so incredible, they go beyond our means of comprehension. The brain contains more than 100 billion neurons (cells), and each one of these neurons is linked to as many as 10,000 other neurons. Today, top scientists are researching and uncovering more and more about the awesome power of the brain and the subconscious. Recent scientific breakthroughs have uncovered information about the mind that Asian and other countries and religions have known about and have been taking advantage of for over 5,000 years: Concepts about being able to achieve what you train your mind to believe; concepts about our feelings being created by our thoughts; concepts about how we can control our thoughts. This includes recent psychological studies concluding happiness leads to success (and not the other way around). That being the case: Change your feelings to being happy and change your outcome.

Additionally, there is Anthropological evidence that states beliefs and expectations contribute to health and wellness. There are studies about how beliefs in the mind, regardless of whether they are imaginary or real, affect the body. The mind and body are constantly communicating with each other. Studies show how we can actually change our biology by changes to our thoughts, imagery, and beliefs.

There have been a lot of advancements in the areas of 'mind-body control'. Recent scientific and medical breakthroughs uncovering how the mind can control parts of the body that was once considered uncontrollable. One practice of this is called Biofeedback. Biofeedback teaches you through visualization and audio techniques to control your body. Some of these mind techniques include teaching your mind to control certain involuntary body responses. It has been shown to be helpful in treating asthma, IBS, incontinence, epilepsy, headaches, high blood pressure, muscle tension, stress, and anxiety. Biofeedback is used today at many treatment centers. Authoritarians, scholars, and religions have been saying the body can treat and heal itself for thousands of years.

Twenty years ago, as a competitive athlete, I began researching the latest, cutting edge methods in order to be the best. That is also when I discovered and created the Fat Into The Fire Missing Links. Specific mind exercises to shift the body into a higher fat burning mode. Mind-body techniques to maximize metabolism. It is this process that has worked for me and that anybody can adapt to for themselves to achieve their goals. I was initally hesitant to share these alternative techniques with the public due to possible skepticism and criticism. Now though, with more press releases and media coverage regarding the scientific and medical breakthroughs in proven methods like Biofeedback and others, like Psychoneuroimmunology, I can now prove my findings. And, I am now excited to share with everyone my findings on this audio CD and in my Fat Into The Fire book

I used to drink a lot of soda until I read about how bad it is for you from your Fat Into The Fire book. Soda should never have been made and should not be for sale to humans for consumption. As you mentioned in your book, "What are we, hummingbirds?" Your details in your book of the effects of fructose corn syrup on the human body is a wake up call for everyone. A wake up call that the soda companies want to keep hidden so they can continue to make disgustingly large amounts of money without any concern for people. Forget about suing tobacco companies, we should file lawsuits against the soda companies.
I've been following your program for a few months now and am losing fat and getting in shape. I feel so much better now. Your program is so easy to start and keep up with. I am motivated to take better care of myself and invest in myself. I practice all three of the links from your book. Thank you.

I picked up the Fat Into The Fire book, Journal, and workout I on dvd. Since then, I have lost 40 pounds. I have also gotten myself in great shape. I'm now healthier, more active and full of more energy. The book is extremely inspirational, easy to read, and full of tremendous information and support. The program is also very easy and believe it or not, it is enjoyable. Thanks to David for putting this program together and thanks for the online support. I will email you a before and after picture!

Hello, thanks for your great question. I have heard many debates over synthetic vitamins. More and more research suggests that taking too much of them could potentially cause negative effects to your body. Specifically, damage to tissues. More and more professionals are recommending whole food supplements instead of synthetic if you are not getting enough in your diet.

I am assuming of course that the vitamins added to these waters and drinks are synthetic. I also have researched that many of these drinks are not 0 calories, but instead do have sugar and carbs.

This all being the case, I would stick with good old fashioned H20! Water, it does a body great!

Thank you for your great comments! Often, at the bookstores and malls that I have been visiting I often hear many stories and comments as to why someone has not reached their fitness, diet, or wellness goals. I find the real reason is because they have not taken the first step. What's the first step, you ask?  Read on.

I often also hear comments from people about:

how they would 'like' to lose weight and get in shape, or
    they 'should', or
they just 'can't' seem to do it, or
they 'can't' give up the soda, snacks, etc.., or
they 'don't' exercise, or they are not active (I've heard too many excuses as to why on this to list here!),

Anyway, do you see the pattern here?
The first step was never taken - which is part of The Missing Links in the Fat Into The Fire book.
They have never really made a solid decision. They have always been 'wishy-washy'; wanting to get healthier, stating preferences about liking to be healthier and have more energy; but never actually making a solid decision to do so.

    *Make a solid decision,
*Set and write down some specific desires and goals - hold these decisions and goals firmly in your mind and thoughts!
*Learn and practice the Missing Links, The Fuel Link, and The Physical Link from the Fat Into The Fire book- The Fat Into The Fire Book and Journal are the treasure map to your goals. You've got to make the decision first though!

So, what are you waiting for?

Amen to that! Your Missing links section, excuses section and motivation section in your FIF book says it all. They have really put the lightbulb on for me. It all starts in your mind. Doing a few minutes of warm up is a very good idea, and for a couple of good reasons.

Prepare your body for the metabolism boost that is about to come. A warm-up increases your oxygen levels and gets the joints and muscles prepared for exercise.

Best way to warm up? A 3 - 10 minutes of any type of low impact, slow or medium paced cardio works great.

Walk around or march in place for a few minutes, make sure to get those shoulders and arms moving some.

Another great reason to warm up is not just to get your muscles and joints ready, but to get your mind ready. Warming up helps you mentally shift to get ready and to help you get enthusiastic about your workout.

Don't forget the opposite of warming up, that is cooling down. It is just the warm-up in reverse.

Doing a few minutes of cooling down helps your body return to a normal state gradually. This is good for blood flow and breathing levels.

Make sure to cool down with slower paced movements, stretching.  Some abdominal work usually will fit in just fine also.

Thanks for sharing that great story, Janet. You can definitely get back into having and working towards a goal to participate in an event. Whether it's a running road race, a walk for charity, a biking event, a mini or full triathalon, etc., all you have to do is:
    Set the goal,
Plan the way you will get to the goal,
    Put the plan into action,

Those are some great ideas! I used to run in races in the past (a long time ago) and I remember that I always felt better about myself overall when I trained for them and then took part in them. Like you mentioned about picking an event and making it a goal - 'training for it'- I would pick an event, start training for it, then participate in it. During the training part, I was more focused at getting my exercise done since I knew I had a goal in mind. Regardless of how I performed in the event, I felt a real sense of accomplishment that I did it. I felt good about myself for seeing the goal through. I also felt more accomplished and more full of worth for helping a good cause (these events were held to raise money for a worthy organization or charity). Plus, I met new people at the event which is always refreshing to have a new positive experience and meet positive people. Not to mention, not only did I feel better emotionally/mentally, but I was also in better shape and healthier. I was full of energy.

Events like these and making it a goal like you mentioned is a win-win situation.  I have been looking for a way to get back into shape again.  You have inspired me very much with your Fat Into The Fire book and now this great idea of getting back into participating and training for great events. I have a new outlook of enthusiasm now and am anxious to get back in the saddle. I am going to do just what you recommended - pick an event and start training for it! It will get me in better shape - physically, mentally, and spiritually. Thanks!

That was a very interesting and helpful discussion you gave at the book signing I attended. I learned a lot of new things. A big thing I learned from your book is the power of the mind. I've never thought about it like that before, but if you don't have your mind in the right place, you can't succeed at any goal. I'm going to start practicing your mind exercises immediately that are in your Fat Into The Fire Book. I also got a copy of the CD to help. I like the idea that I can practice these techniques while driving to work. Thanks for taking the time to present your findings that you've researched as well as put them together in a book for us. It is obvious you are sincere about helping others.

In the Physical Link section of my Fat Into The Fire book, I have some 'make fitness fun' ideas for you. This section includes information on unregimented exercising - specific things you can do to get your body in better shape, health, burn calories, and you don't even know it's exercising. Of course, there is also a section on regimented exercising. In the Fat Into The Fire book, I've put together a high intensity section, as well as a less intense section with 3 specific plans for you to pick from. So, you have many options and suggestions to chose from as well as mix and match. One thing you may like in this regimented exercise section, is the shortness of the workouts. Many of us don't want to spend hours in the gym or exercising. Many of us don't have the time. That is why I put together short workouts that can easily fit into anyone's schedule and be done at home. Through my years of training and testing, I put together workouts and combinations that provide the most benefit in the shortest time. These 3 specific plans are at different levels. If you are a beginner, start with Workout I. Then once you get more comfortable, you can move on to Workout II. Using these workouts and unregimented exercises that are in the book, along with the Fuel Link, and the Missing Links from the book, will get you to your goal! And that is very exciting!! Keep us posted on your success. Let me know if you need any additional assistance or have any additional questions along your road to success.

    Jody,

Believe it or not, 75 pounds is nothing, a drop in the bucket.

Obesity and people who are over 100 pounds overweight, unfortunately, is very common nowadays.

75 pounds? You can zip that off in no time at all and feel and look fantastic.

    Make the simple changes first.

Follow some of the simple substitutions that are in the Fat Into The Fire book.

The 7 day diet in the book could help you to lose upt to 50 pounds in one year.

Next, focus on my 'unregimented exercise' that is in the book. Over 1 year, that could make another 20 pound difference.

Adding an exercise program that is in the book could also result in another 20 pounds of fat loss, at least.

Add that all up, you can easily lose the pounds in approximately one year!

There are specific calculations in the Fat Into The Fire book and Journal for you to fill out and get your precise plan immediately.

You can do it!  E-mail me and keep up with this blog for support.

    Achieve.

I used to not even eat breakfast, and when I would get to work be so hungry and dragging that I would drink the bad coffee with the awful, high fat and high sugar creamers. 5 minute coffee break boost - It's not just about the coffee!

When we sit too long or let ourselves become somewhat 'dormant', our bodies like to shut down. Our metabolism actually takes measures to decrease our fat burning!

How can we stop this, and keep ourselves in a 'fat burning mode'?

Easy - instead of just grabbing a cup of coffee or tea for that caffeine boost, why not energize yourself with a few quick moments of movements? You will keep your metabolism alive and keep yourself in a fat burning mode.

Fat Into The Fire show you how to achieve maximum health with maximum metabolism. This also means for many shifting your body into a 24 hour a day fat burning mode.   Fat Into The Fire!

Take that excess body fat and BURN IT for ENERGY!

I have much more interest and attention going towards myself and my goals. I enjoy filling out the journal every day and reviewing my accomplishments. Funny story, but I was the same way. I thought if I starved myself I would lose weight. I lost a little, but couldn't get rid of a lot of stubborn pounds. By then I got tired (no energy) of starving myself so started eating a lot, and back to my normal over eating. I got the Fat Into The Fire Book, journal, dvd, and cd about two months ago. I have lost about 20 pounds and am feeling great. I have been using the 7 day diet in the book and keeping up with my journal. I have been doing the workouts from the workout I dvd (which is also in the book). I have also been getting my mental focus on track as a result of listening and practicing the Missing Links CD. The program is fantastic and really works great. I want to thank you for putting it together. I now know the importance of what to eat, when to eat it. I also know how to make the most of my time when exercising. I don't have a lot of time to do it, but am achieving it with your short yet effective workouts. They are also easy to do. And even though I've been on the 7 day diet for a few months, I am feeling more energized than when I was overeating. Of course, I'm also feeling better about myself and as you wrote, 'I am on a roll'. I think if anyone wants to achieve thier goals this time, they can do it with your program.

That's very interesting, you don't think about the importance of protein normally. I guess in the past you would hear a lot about not to eat too much protein. But from reviewing your FIF cookbook that has the information about whole grains, it looks like some of the whole grains contain protein. And a lot of us aren't eating these kinds of whole grains. So even more the importance of getting protein in your diet.

    Thanks for your question Mandy,
The Fat Into The Fire book is a complete book and a realistic approach. More than just a diet, it is a lifestyle change. It includes more than just diet and exercise. It also includes what I refer to in the book as the Missing Links. This is information that most people are not aware about when it comes to diet and exercise. The Missing Links also refers to being in the proper state of mind to achieve your goals. To put it plainly - train your mind, and your body will follow. The Missing Links explains this, plus has specific exercises to 'train your brain'. Of course, I also have a journal to help track your goals and progress. I added workouts on DVD, just as they are in the Fat Into The Fire book, for those who would like to perform the workout along with us. I've added a special audio CD to assist in practicing the Missing Links and 'training your brain'. The Fat Into The Fire book has some recipes, but I wanted to add more, so created the FIF Cookbook for All Seasons. All that being available, the Fat Into The Fire Book is complete in itself and a great way to start. The other books, dvd's, and cd are just 'icing' for those who would like extra assistance. They are the added 'boost' to get you over that wall and to success. A sure way to increase your success rate. Please read the press release about the Fat Into The Fire book and more information about myself on the website, www.FatIntoTheFire.com. You can visit www.Amazon.com to view excerpts inside the book as well. Thank you.

    The 'magic' of PROTEIN!

My Fat Into The Fire 7-day diet plan is structured in a way that will help you get the most amount of fat burning from the food you eat.

    This includes THERMOGENESIS.

There are a lot of food stuffs that induce a positive thermogenic effect.

One of the most powerful items in terms of thermogenesis is quality protein.  My FIF diet centers around the proper way to do that.

However, as far as non-protein items that will cause thermogenesis......anything spicy, like hot peppers, black pepper, and any spicy seasoning.

Green tea is another thermogenic favorite.

Also, an old trick is to drink 2 TBSP of apple cider vinegar right before a meal.  2 - 3 times per day, in addition to drinking water before each meal.  This will help you to not eat as much, thus getting you back to eating the correct portion sizes.

Just remember, in the grand scheme of your entire fitness program, the combination of the Three Links from the Fat Into The Fire book is what is most important:
Proper nutrition, regular exercise, and a proper state of mind.  I reveal the best ways to do all three in my Fat Into The Fire book.

These Three Links are the most important elements in total success.

    Best of health to you,
    David

Hi, I took your advice in your book and switched from soda to selzter water. Sometimes I add a lemon to it. other times I put a little bit of juice to it. I don't crave the soda anymore I guess because I have replaced it with the seltzer water and also because I am eating a lot healthier on your 7 day diet program. I am also drinking a lot more water per your program and do feel a lot better as far as energy levels go. Do you think some people may be dehydrated if they are drinking a lot of soda and not much water? Do you think that may be making them feel less energy and crave the soda?

    Hello Ashley!

'Spot Reducing' is a great idea, in theory.

It is best to keep this in mind - maximum metabolism means that you will ultimately burn fat and excess energy at a maximum level.

Fat Into The Fire trains and coaches you on how to reach a maximum metabolism and your best health.

Do not focus on 'spot reducing' the abs or waist, but rather focus on the whole picture.

Cardio burns fat.  Strength training burns fat. The Fat Into The Fire 'Fuel Link', 'Physical Link', and the 'Missing Links' all burn fat.

Combine the 3 Links, and the ultimate end result is that you will achieve the shape and fitness condition you want!

Focus on the Fat Into The Fire program as a whole, and the specific results will come.

I have a few DVD's from the Fat Into The Fire Program- all will work great at doing the physical part of burning the fat.  Don't forget the other two links though from the book.
    Keep me posted,
    David

I have lost weight pretty fast using the 7 day diet in the book. My friend, who cheated a little more has also lost fat but of course a little slower. It is so great how just this one book has so many options. I've started mixing in some of the other meal suggestions with the 7 day diet. I'm going to get the cookbook for more options and to help pick healthy dishes to make for my friends and family.

    Scott,

The Fat Into The Fire book includes 3 weight training workouts, that is beginner, intermediate, and a higher intermediate.

These are the very same workouts that I do myself to keep tone and maintain; or to get better muscle definition.

Follow my FIF diet plan, which has a focus on protein, do the FIF workouts, and it is a guarantee you will achieve more muscle tone, strength, and definition.

Please note: One of my next books, due out in 2008, is a Champion's Guide to Bodybuilding.  If you really want to add some muscle, above and beyond the range of a 'fitness physique', stay tuned!  In the mean time, you can build a great and important base with the workouts in the FIF book.  Thanks for writing.

Good evening Mary Ann, I certainly do address how to increase energy in my book. In fact, The Fat Into The Fire book is all about how to maximize your energy and your health. You see, it is much more than a diet or fitness book. I spent many years searching for the perfect combination of foods, exercise, and mental health to achieve the most energy and best overall health. I share this perfect combination in the Fat Into The Fire book. I break the book up into what I call three Links - The Fuel Link (proper and power nutrition); The Physical Link (fitness); and the Missing Links (positive psychology). Combine all three of these for high energy, and a healthy, fit body and mind. Use only one of the links, or part of a link, and it is incomplete. They have to all be used together. Then you will achieve maximum energy, maximum metabolism, and a maximum you. Once you begin practicing them, you will get on a high - on a roll. Just as I have, and many others, you can be full of abundant energy, excellent health, a fit body, and a happy mind. Thanks for writing,

Hello, Thank you for posting your question. We have some good exercises for the inner thigh in Workout II on DVD. They include the side leg lifts while lying down on your side. Another great one is 'Plee-a's Squats'. How to do it? Take a fairly wide stance, feet wider than shoulders. Point your toes out. Then, hold a can of soup or a small dumbbell weight with both hands, arms straight, in between your legs.

Then, just squat down, feel the stretch in your inner thigh, and concentrate on squeezing the inner thigh muscles as you push yourself back up to a standing position.

Do the squat slow and deliberate, feel the stretch then squeeze on the push back up.

    Do 2 or 3 times for 12 - 15 repetitions.

Keep in mind, there are a few different options to chose from in the Fat Into The Fire book. There is a 'fast track program' if you are looking for a faster route. There is also a slower, more realistic route. This is great for many who don't want to make any drastic changes immediately. Lastly, there is the healthy route for all people. A way of life. Methods to maximize metabolism, energy, and health. That is the system I personally use every day. The Fat Into The Fire plan is a way of life plan. A way to get the most out of yourself. Take care of yourself. Invest in yourself.

Hi B.L., that is great news. Congrats. I am finding this program easier than others I've tried in the past. I guess because I am using their slowest option.  I am using the 7 day diet on some days, and on others 'cheating'.  It is turning out to be a more effective and a permanent change. A very positive and encouraging program. I can see myself reaching my goals. Anyway, congrats and keep it going.

    Thank you Jennifer,
That was a very nice comment. Yes, I have definitely done tremendous amounts of research over the past twenty years. I tested and researched tons of methods, diets, nutrition supplements and combinations, workouts, and psychology. My interest began when I started boybuilding competitively. Then, I became passionate about researching and testing the best methods. The best combinations of nutrition, exercise, and wellness. I am very excited to be able to share in my Fat Into The Fire Book the exact combination of what I refer in the book as Links to successfully achieve any goal. Follow the Fat Into The Fire program in the book and I know anyone can succeed. I am personally dedicated and passionate about not just sharing my proven, successful findings, but also helping others learn about my findings. Learning about my findings and applying these links so you too can be successful. You too can reach any goal and maximize your life. A maximum, highly productive. A very happy you. That is what the Fat Into The Fire book and system is all about. I am glad, Jennifer, you were able to find out about my program. You can check my book signing tour regularly to see when I am in your area. I am planning on touring the Country to help spread the word and to help make a positive difference in someone's life. A difference for the better.

Wow! Some great comments - there sure is a lot of enthusiasm and ambition out there from some motivated people!

That is one component of Fat Into The Fire - MOTIVATION.  One aspect of my Missing Links is helping you learn techniques to keep yourself motivated.

Don't forget, in addition to the Missing Links section, I have a whole chapter in the book on MOTIVATION.  Filled with quotes and uplifting information, read it when you need an extra boost!  I also have a special Missing Links on audio CD with specific positive psychology techniques to exercise your mind.  You can pop it in your CD player anytime to practice or for encouragement.  A great tool to use while in your car driving.  Some people have told me it is super to play in the car, because it also serves as a stress reducer.  It will help keep you focused and on track of reaching your goals.  It will get your mind into the positive mental outlook it needs to be in.  Write down your exercises and results in the Fat Into The Fire book.  Track your progress.  Just like our Team FIF pledge - "I Feel Fit, I Feel Energized, and I Pledge to MYSELF to Stay on TRACK!"

Hi I have been able to successfully lose fat easily with your Fat Into The Fire book and Journal. I have been steadily losing, slowly and surely. I still have been able to cheat and take days off while getting in better shape. It is really a realistic approach. So many other books are just scams. But your book is actually a real life way to achieve better fitness, better health, and a better attitude. I am very inspired. I will tell everyone I know about your book. It will be a bestseller soon, I am sure. I see from your background and from your information in the book and from this online support, that you truly care about helping others get fit and healthy. And that you are not just out there trying to make a quick buck with some new crazy approach. I like how you got back to the basics and explained the importance of getting your mind into it. I like how you have detailed exercises to do to get your mind in sync. That is the real thing that is missing from most books. People just try to come up with new workouts, or new ways to eat food. Most people should know by now how they should eat and that they should exercise. But most people don't know why and how they should get their mind involved, not just their stomach and body. So, thanks for your twenty years of research and thanks for sharing it with us. I hope I can meet you at an upcoming book signing to thank you in person.

Thanks for the encouragement. So many people think that if they mess up on their diet one day that it is over for them and because they messed up, they are done with the diet. Don't give up and give in so soon. Don't put it in your head that since you messed up, it is over and you'll never lose weight. That is the kind of thinking that will get you no where. And that is one huge thing that sets your diet book apart from others, the missing link - the mental link. I am losing fat every week. But more importantly, I am feeling better mentally. I am using your missing link techniques and feel like a new person. Thank you so much. And if I can do it, anyone can do it.

A busy work and lifestyle schedule does indeed make it a challenge for many of us to squeeze in exercise.

Here is the trick. You have got to just figure out where you can 'steal' that 20 minutes of the day all for yourself.

When you can get that 20 minute slot, the rest is easy.

First of all, take full advantage of that time and keep moving.

    Stay in motion.

My workout DVD I is a great resource. Follow along with any of the easy to do workouts for 15 or 20 minutes, and you will have yourself into the fat burning zone!

If you can find an extra 3, 5, or 10 minutes some other time in your day, then stretch, take some deep breaths, maybe even get on the floor and do some crunches and extra stretching.

It does not take much time, just find the time and put yourself into action!
    David.
PS - Don't forget some of the most basic exercises can be done with no TV or radio. Jumping Jacks, Jump Rope, push ups, sit ups, run, jog, or march in place. Stretch. All of this will energize you and help you reach you goals.

Protein powders and protein drinks can be a great tool to use as a part of your diet.

Like all things, they must be used properly and in moderation.

A chocolate protein drink that is 200 calories serves as a great meal replacement in a pinch, or a great snack.

However, if you find yourself drinking a protein drink that you don't need, then, you will store it.

Works the same way for anything nutritious. If you do not need the calories and you eat it, your body will probably store it as fat.

Keep your calories in the proper range. Follow the exact snack and meal planner in the Fat Into The Fire book and you will succeed.

    David
PS - I use protein drinks and protein bars almost every single day. I intake the proper calories at the proper times. Nothing extra that I don't need.

PSS - Keep on your FIF diet program and you will find yourself in tune with your body, so that your own 'internal' signals will start to keep you on track.

    Hello Brad,

You must have an 'inside' track to my up and coming writings!

I am working on a special report to send out to all TEAM FIF members on increasing fat burning by eating certain food stuffs.

    That is Thermogenesis.

However, as a short preview, without any great details, try to add the following to your diet and see what you think:
Any hot pepper sauce (no added sugars)
Black pepper (have some every meal)
2 TBSP apple cider vinegar before meals
    Green tea
    Tea
    Coffee (2 cups per day)

That is just a start. Increase your body heat naturally by foods that cause thermogenesis = more fat burning.
    -David
PS - Don't go overboard on any of this. It is meant to be a subtle booster. Use in moderation.
PSS - There is no substitute for the Three Links. Focus and apply them.

For anybody who has never done weights before, or if you have not exercised in a long time, I strongly urge you to start the exercise program with no weights at all. That is, go through the motions and really concentrate on flexing your muscles.

From there, when you are ready, move on to 1 or 3 pound dumbbell weights.

When you are ready, move up to 5 pounds and use heavier weights as needed.

Remember, do not focus so much on the weight being used, but focus on the activity at hand. You will be boosting up your metabolism and burning more fat regardless of the weight you are using.

Use the proper weight for your strength and fitness level.

    Keep pumpin', David.

I guess I think of happy Christmas memories with eating sweets and carbs. Plus, with colder weather and shorter days, it seems like the natural thing to do. However, I have been using the mental techniques and visualizations from the Fat Into The Fire book and that does seem to be working. In the past, I had a lot harder time getting out of the holiday eating and back to eating better. I have been losing weight even with the cheating. I have been following the diet plan in the book and even with the cheating have been losing weight. This diet plan may actually work, unlike the others I've tried.

first, thanks for the encouragement and for writing your book. I have been steadily losing pounds every week for about almost two months now. I really like your diet plan and your tips because it is not anything over the top or not obtainable. I like how you offer different options in your book. I am taking the easier plan. I have found that I can still cheat occasionally and continue to eat some of my favorite foods. Other diets I've tried were all too tough and demanding too much. I have tried a lot of diets. I would try them for a little while, feel like I was depriving myself too much, so quit. With your diet, I don't have to deprive myself, I can cheat, and I am still losing weight. I am eating a little more carbs than in your 7 day diet plan. But I am still losing the weight. Slowly but surely this time; and very easily. I am also doing your workout I on DVD and have found it to be easy for me. I am doing the workout with weights. My muscles are getting toned, and I am feeling great. For the first time, I am feeling great about a diet and exercise program. For the first time I think I can get to my goal with your program. THANK YOU!

    Hello Luke,

Eggs in the morning will definately stave off hunger pangs, and keep you feeling energized without bogging you down.

On the other hand, a low protein and high carbohydrate breakfast will leave you full and ready to go back to sleep! Not to mention, a high carb, low protein breakfast will really slow down the fat burning. Not good.

I would like to take this opportunity to emphasize something very important.  This is for the people who have been dieting, and are not getting the results as fast as they think they should be.

First, you have got to stick with it. Weight loss can be extremely variable from one person to the next. You have got to 'ride it out'!

Meaning, stick with your exercise program, keep following the Fat Into The Fire eating program for fat loss, and keep visualizing yourself achieving success.

Before you know it - you will experience a 'flood' of success! As if the 'fat-loss dam' finally broke!

Yes, some people lose 10 pounds in only a week or two. Others, for many differing variables, may stay the same for 2 - 3 weeks. Finally, your body will co-operate. Your body will finally 'realize' that you are trying to burn away the unhealthy fat and get into shape. It will co-operate, but you have got to keep at it until the results start to kick in. When they do kick in, you will be unstoppable in terms of achieving your goals!

Once you are in motion, in gear, achieving your fitness and fat loss goals, nothing can stop you!

Let me know how you are doing, email me at David@FatIntoTheFire.com

Thanks, keep up the efforts, your success awaits you!

    Hello Nicole,

The most important thing to keep in mind is that exercise does not have to take much time out of your schedule.

A simple 15 minute workout every day, along with a sound diet and proper state of mind, can produce amazing results.

Try 5 minutes of stretching, abdominal work (twists, crunches), in the morning, and get in another 10 or 15 minute workout in the evening. Follow along with my workout I with weights.  The workout is in the book and also on Workout I on DVD.  As I emphasize in the Fat Into The Fire Book, strengthening your muscles is one of the most important exercises you can perform.  You'll burn fat, get in shape, and have toned muscles!

    You can achieve great results!

    Hello Ed,

No problem.  Can you walk in place?  Can you do front leg lifts, side leg lifts, back leg lifts?  Use a chair to help keep yourself stable.

Any leg movement is a fine substitution.  You can also do bent over dumbell lifts (weights optional when first starting).  These are done while standing, when you slowly bend over and down, trying to touch the ground and then slowly coming back up.  Maintain a slight bend in the knee when you perform these.  Do these very carefully.  They can benefit the entire back of your leg and even lower back.

Remember, try doing the squats and lunges at a VERY basic level. Try doing a squat while only 'squatting' down 1 or 2 inches.  Slowly build on to that.

For lunges, do very small 'leg steps'.  As you get stronger, slowly make your steps bigger and you will be doing more of a lunge-type movement before you know it.

We demostrate some of these basic moves in our Fat Into The Fire Workout I on DVD.

Remember, one main point behind the Fat Into The Fire program is that you can start VERY slowly. The most important thing is that you just get started.  No matter what level you are on, a start is something that is built up on and improved.  You will reach your goals!

    Hello Carla,

In order for you to have a Maximum Metabolism, you need to adjust your daily routine so that you are eating 3 main meals each day, with 1,2, or 3 snacks spread out.

It is best to not skip meals. If you are not very hungry, at least eat 200 calories, and focus on protein, just like you would for a snack.

Skipping meals, especialy breakfast, is a recipe for disaster.  Fat Into The Fire is all about FUELING your body for a Maximun Metabolism. This is best accomplished by sticking with the guidelines in the book.

Remember, the FUEL link, the PHYSICAL (exercise) link, and the MENTAL (state of mind) link all work together to achieve your goals.

Thanks for writing, keep in touch,

Thanks for sharing your inspirational story! Feels great to feel GREAT!

Just wanted to check with you - you mentioned you have lost weight - are you including some sort of resistance workout? (weight training).

As I teach in the Fat Into The Fire book, you must be performing some type of resistance training.  I reccomend strengthening with weights.  Even if it is a few times a week, with light weights. The Fat Into The Fire Workout I on DVD is a great start.

The goal of Fat Into The Fire is to Maximize your Metabolism - maximizing your entire body, mind, and health- so we need resistance training, not just cardiovascular exercise, to accomplish this.  I also explain in the book, how weight training strengthens your muscles and even strengthens your bones.  You can start back up at any age and it also benefits all ages.

The goal is to lose fat and have muscle tone.  Follow the guidelines in the book for ultimate success.

    Hello Jack,

Depending on your fitness level, there are a lot of options for thigh exercises.

    Thigh muscle tone:
For beginners working out at home, the Fat Into The Fire Workout DVD I has a great cardio-muscle toning exercise session that will get your thighs tone and fit.

Also, that DVD has got a dumbbell weight training workout that includes squats - a superior exercise for all the muscles of the thighs, upper and lower leg muscles.

Workout DVD II includes more of the same, with some advanced moves, including lunges with upper body moves.

Thigh muscularity and strength (increased muscle size):
This would most likely include weight resistance training done 2 or 3 times per week.  Exercises like dumbbell or barbell squats, weighted lunges, and leg curls and leg extensions if you have access to equipment.

Your main objective is a factor as well, along with what type of equipment you may have access to.  Do you want to lose fat, tone muscle, build muscle, increase strength and endurance?

For example, a person wanting to build muscle will train differently than a person just wanting muscle tone.

I would like to get some more information from you to be able to give you a more detailed answer.  Feel free to email me at avid@FatIntoTheFire.com">David@FatIntoTheFire.com or post more on this blog.

Additionally - get moving and get walking!
Walking, especially with ambition, drive, and determination, can really be a great workout for the legs!  That is, walking fast, 'power walking', or some light jogging or running.

Look forward to hearing from you, David.

    Lou,

Thank you for your kind words.  The book presents the best information on fitness and fat loss, the easiest way for anyone to achieve success!

Snacking is one of the BEST ways to lose weight.  However, snacking can also be the best way to gain weight and get fat.

My Fat Into The Fire book will tell you how to snack to LOSE weight and fat.

It is very easy to do, you just have to have an awareness of what you are snacking on, and make sure the snacks fit into your plan for that day.

There are a lot of snacks that taste better than the traditional 'junk food' snacks we have grown up (and grown fat) with, refer to the Fuel Link in the Fat Into The Fire book for tips.

One snack I highly recommend and discuss in the book are Nutrition Bars.  There are a lot of these bars for sale, so you have to be careful and read the label.  Here are some guidelines for a snack bar or 'protein bar':

    Less  than 225 calories.
Look for at least 2 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein.
Stick with bars that have 40% fat calories or less.
AND - 28 grams or less of carbohydrates!

    REAL FOOD
is also a great snack.  Try these:

Small apple with 12 - 20 pieces of nuts.
Small pear or small banana with a small serving of low fat cheese.
1/4 - 1/2 cup of low fat cottage cheese with a pineapple slice.

Here is your rule of thumb for a 'real food' snack:

    Less than 225 total calories.
Focus on a protein source, try to include some fiber.

One of the main guidelines of the Fat Into The Fire System, is that you turn to a focus on protein in your diet, and that you take in enough fiber.

When you focus on protein, that will ensure that you are eating enough.  Likewise for the fiber.

When your other food portions are in control (fat intake, carbohydrate intake, you will LOSE WEIGHT, BURN AWAY FAT, and get in great shape!

Now, this is assuming that you are keeping up with the exercise guidelines, and you have a proper state of mind, focused on your goals.

Just a little bit of structure and some planning, anybody can achieve great success on the Fat Into The Fire system
    Thanks for writing,
    David

I think it is a great idea for just about everybody to start out with a pair of 3 pound dumbbells. When you are comfortable and ready, move up to 5 pound dumbells.

Remember, any resistance exercise, that is weight training, will give you the metabolism booster that you need to really get into a fat burning mode.

    Hello Kara,

Most people can experience fat loss at a very enjoyable rate by doing a 20 minute weight workout, 3 times a week.  Definitely walk fast 20-30 minutes for 4-5 days a week as part of your weight loss program.  If you can do a walking routine or some sort of cardio everyday - all the better:  30-45 minutes long will get the fat off fast.  The weight training is very easy for most to do, check your Fat Into The Fire book for workout 1 or workout 2.  As I explain in the book, you must do the weight workouts though; that is the best sure-fire way to accelerate fat loss and your metabolism.  Along with posting and tracking your goals in a journal.  Keep me posted.  I know you can do it!

Time is going to pass regardless of what you are doing.  So, why let another day pass you by?  Think about it:  You could do nothing towards your goals and a year from now, you'd still be making the same comments and you will still be the same or worse.  Instead of pondering over this, take action now.  Your end goal may seem overwhelming and thus it may seem unobtainable.  This may be the very thing that is keeping you from starting and committing.  So, lets take it one step at a time.  Small baby steps is all that it takes.  You have a choice every day - you are either going to gain fat today or burn fat today.  At any given point in time, your body is either storing fat or burning fat.  The choice is yours.  Fat Into The Fire is all about making sure that you are burning fat.
First, get out your Fat Into The Fire book and turn to page 1 and begin reading.  Second, if you don't have a Fat Into The Fire Journal, please send me an email with your address. I will gladly send you a copy.  This Fat Into The Fire Journal is the treasure map to your success, so I want to make sure you have a copy.  This journal is your baby steps.  Set an obtainable goal and writ it down in this 3 month journal.  Then track the goal with the journal and you will obtain the goal.  Inch by inch, it's a cinch.
You do not need to ponder over this anymore.  You do not need to state that you can't do this, or you can't do that.  Take the above simple steps I just mentioned.  Before you know it, you will be thanking yourself.  Invest in yourself.  You are worth it!
Please do not hesitate to email me or post questions/comments on the blog.  We are in this together.  We want to see you succeed!  So, keep us posted!
    -David

    Bill,
That's a great question and I've got a great answer.  Anybody can start out initially with one of the three workouts from the Fat Into The Fire Book.  These workouts include weight lifing.  Refer to the proper form pictures in the book and journal.  Additionally, I have an instructional basic weightlifting dvd that you can get on my website.
From there, if you want more muscle, you can easily transition into a bodybuilding style workout.  Once you get to that point, email me directly for specific guidance at avid@FatIntoTheFire.com">David@FatIntoTheFire.com

Also, when you get to that level, buy a copy of:   1) Fat Into The Fire, The Afterburner, and  2) A Champion's Guide to Bodybuilding.

Remember, your diet plays a crucial role in these processes.  My recommended 'fuel mix' in the Fat Into The Fire Book is a great start.

In the meantime, feel free to post additional questions or email me.  Please also share with the other Team FIF members your success story!  You can get there, one muscle fiber at a time.

    Hello,

Getting rid of stubborn belly fat...........tough, but easily can be done.  Fat is like a pile of wood.  A pile of wood just sits there, unless a lot of air and a fire get put to it, it will never burn up.

    Fat is the same way.

Fat will just sit there unless you apply a lot of air and some fire.

In this case, the 'air' is you working out and getting your heart rate up, increasing oxygen intake.  By using one of the 3 workout plans in the Fat Into The Fire book, or the DVD's, you can work on the 'air' part.  Also, review the 21 minute cardio theory in the book.

The fire is, well, 'Fat Into The Fire'......mentally getting yourself in the proper state of mind to get your body burning fat.  Learn and practice my visualization and affirmation techniques along with the other Missing Links from the book.  We also have some of these specific Missing Links on a special audio CD to help guide you daily.  Go to the FIF Store for more information.

One other aspect to getting rid of that fat is WATER.  Fat burning is a water-dependant process.  If you do not have 100% of the water that you need, you will not burn fat 100% efficiently.  Refer to the 'Fuel' section in the book for additional guidance.

Take control of your mind and put yourself in a constant mental and physiological state of fat burning......... Fat Into The Fire!

You will get the results you want by adhering to the above advice.  Supplements can indeed help, but I will touch on that later.

Once you review and begin implementing the above mentioned items from the Fat Into The Fire book, please be sure to let me know if you have any additional or specific questions.  Also, keep us posted on your success!  YOU CAN DO IT!

Hi Kelly, You are not alone. I have had this question asked before. First of all, there are of course many reasons to have bad knees. So I would highly recommend visiting a physician first for proper diagnosis. And, yes, you are correct in stating that you should perform some type of exercise. No need to worry though if you currently can't use your knees or can't perform too much activity with your knees, we've got some suggestions. As I mentioned in my book, Fat Into The Fire, there are a number of exercises - regimented and unregimented that can be performed without using the knees. Some examples include simple movements and stretches you can do in a sitting position. This would include twisting and stretching motions. Pick up some dumbells and perform a few basic upper body weight lifting moves. Please refer to either the Fat Into The Fire Book or journal for pictures of these examples. You can also pick up a copy of Workout I on DVD at http://shop.fatintothefire.com, and do the upper body moves along with us.
Also, review the unregimented exercise section in the book to learn more ideas to get fit and in better shape with bad knees or another injury.
Some Team FIF members and clients of mine have experienced knee and other joint problems as result of weighing too much. Once they started losing weight and eating a more nutritious diet, their joints felt a lot better. Then they were even able to move on to leg exercises that involved the knees. So take it one small step at a time and you will get there! Please let me know if you have any other questions or comments. Keep us posted on your success!

Here is a fantastic recipe from the Fat Into The Fire Book and the new, spiral bound FIF Cookbook!

It is fun and easy to make. This is a great energy, nutritious snack that will fill you up and feed your muscles! A great snack to have anytime, including in the evening. Make these and keep them with you for snacks! My niece loves them just for the taste (and she doesn't know they are good for her!)

    Homemade Power Packed Protein Bars:

    -Nonstick spray
    -1 C soy protein powder
    -1/2 c whole wheat flour
    -2 C of rolled oats
    -1/2 c of oat bran
    -1/2 tsp of cinnamon
    -3/4 tsp of salt
    -1/2 c (packed) brown sugar
-1 c of semisweet chocolate chips
-1-1&1/2 c of plain or vanilla
    yogurt (non fat)
1/4 c of canola or peanut oil
    1 tsp of vanilla extract

Mix the dry ingredients together, then add the other ingredients and mix well (use those muscles!).
Place mixture on a lightly sprayed 9x13 baking pan. Pat it down.
Bake at 350 (325 for glass pan) for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and cut. Finish baking for 15 minutes. These can be stored in the fridge or freezer. They are very economical. You can also make some variations:
Replace yogurt with applesauce, canned pumpkin or mashed bananas.
You can replace the oil with 1/2 c of peanut butter or almond butter.
You can add up to 1 c of chopped nuts, and/or seeds. They are awesome!
